Injectors for the Ford Power Stroke

Fuel injectors, injector sets, and injector hardware for the 7.3, 6.0, and 6.7 Power Stroke — stock replacements through high-flow performance injectors for higher horsepower diesel builds.

2 parts

Injectors are the most-searched Power Stroke part, and the one where fitment matters most. The 7.3L and 6.0L fire their injectors with high-pressure engine oil (HEUI); the 6.4L and 6.7L are common-rail, where a high-pressure fuel pump charges the rail and the injectors are pulsed open electrically. Nothing crosses over between the two systems.

Injectors for the Power Stroke: what to know before you buy

That split decides what actually kills a set. On the HEUI 7.3 and 6.0, injector life is an oil-quality story — varnished or degraded oil sticks the injector spool valves ("stiction"), which shows up as a rough cold idle and a knock that fades as the engine warms. On the common-rail 6.4 and 6.7, injector life is a fuel-cleanliness story, and the most dramatic version of it is a 6.7 CP4.2 pump failure sending metal debris straight into the rails and all eight injectors.

Confirm the diagnosis before you spend: a buzz test plus injector balance rates / cylinder-contribution data is the difference between replacing one injector and replacing eight. New injectors and injector tooling are on Amazon Automotive; remanufactured flow-matched sets and genuine OEM take-offs — especially the discontinued 7.3 and 6.0 HEUI units — are an eBay Motors market.

Fitment by engine

Engine What's different
7.3L (1994.5–2003) HEUI, fired by the HPOP and metered by the IPR valve. Early 1994.5–1997 trucks run single-shot AA/AB-code injectors; 1999–2003 trucks run split-shot AD/AE-code injectors. Cab-and-chassis and van applications can differ from pickups — match the code and the body.
6.0L (2003–2007) HEUI with the FICM controlling injector timing and voltage. Stiction is the classic failure. Check FICM voltage and high-pressure oil (standpipes, dummy plugs, STC fitting) before condemning a set of injectors.
6.4L (2008–2010) Common-rail. A leaking injector dilutes the engine oil with fuel — a rising oil level and a fuel smell on the dipstick are the tell, and that dilution is what wrecks bearings and pistons if it's ignored.
6.7L (2011+) Common-rail fed by the Bosch CP4.2 on 2011-through-roughly-2021 trucks. Protect the pump and you protect the injectors: a CP4 failure contaminates the pump, rails, lines, and every injector at once.

Before you buy

  • Confirm with a buzz test and balance rates before buying anything — symptoms overlap with FICM, HPOP, and glow-plug faults.
  • Match the injector code/part number to your model year and body style (pickup vs. cab-and-chassis vs. van), not just the engine.
  • Buy flow-matched sets per bank rather than mismatched singles; a fresh injector next to seven tired ones usually just moves the miss.
  • Budget for the o-rings, and on HEUI engines the copper combustion washers, as part of the job.
  • Fix what killed them: oil quality and change intervals on the 7.3/6.0, fuel filtration on the 6.4/6.7.

Injectors: common questions

Do 6.0 Power Stroke injectors fit a 7.3?
No. Both engines use HEUI injectors, but they are physically and electrically different parts with different nozzles, bodies, and control strategies — the 6.0 adds the FICM. Injectors do not interchange between Power Stroke engines, and within the 7.3 they don't freely interchange across years either (single-shot vs. split-shot codes).
Is it worth buying remanufactured Power Stroke injectors?
Quality reman injectors — rebuilt to spec, flow-matched, and sold as a set for your specific year and application — are the value path, and for the discontinued 7.3 and 6.0 HEUI units they're often the realistic path. Buy from a rebuilder that publishes its testing, expect a core charge, and avoid mismatched singles.
Why do injectors keep failing on my truck?
Repeat failures almost always trace back to the supporting system rather than the injectors. On the HEUI 7.3 and 6.0 that's oil — the wrong oil, stretched change intervals, or a tired high-pressure oil system. On the common-rail 6.4 and 6.7 it's fuel — poor filtration, water, or debris from a failing high-pressure pump. Replace the injectors and the cause, or you'll buy them twice.
